As changes made to technology and fishing

As shown in the graph, the amount of tuna fish caught increased each year. The difference in the amount of tuna caught between the years 1950 to 1960 and 1960 to 1970 are quite similar. The difference in the amount of tuna caught between 1970 to 1980 and 1990 to 2000 are quite similar as well. However, the amount of tuna caught between 1980 and 1990 is almost triple the amount from 1950 to 1960. A possible reason for the increase of tuna caught could be caused by a higher rate of bycatching.

As different species of fish are in higher demand, the higher the bycatch rate of tuna. Another possible reason for the increase in tuna caught is because of the improvements and changes made to technology and fishing methods. Over the years, more countries have been introduced to new devices and fishing techniques that help improve the efficiency of fishing, thus increasing the amount of tuna caught each year.A major concern right now is the problem of overfishing. Ocean overfishing simply means catching fish from the sea at rates too high where fish stocks become too depleted to recover.
