Atticus Finch, a lawyer that lives in Maycomb County, Alabama.
He once described to his daughter, Scout Finch, that “you never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view – until you climb into his skin and walk around in it. (39)” The time of scout being young she does not truly understand what her dad just tried to explain to her. As the novel continues and she starts to mature, she starts to understand what Atticus was telling her. Jem also starts to understand the true depth of what Atticus was trying to explain.
Throughout the book both, Scout and Jem, realize that they need to see and respect people for not who they appear to be, who they are as individuals.
