Flame test is used in the identification of certain metals through looking to the color produced. Through determining their color characteristics, we can also identify other elements. Since each element has different characteristic we can identify the unidentified elements present. Examples are determining elements present in a planet, knowing how fireworks work, we can also determine what kind of element used when seeing a firework etc. It is a qualitative test used to determine the identity or the possible identities of a metal or metalloid ion found in an ionic compound. The experiment will help to determine the relation of the variables to each other. What may happen if one variable is changed, how can it affect the experiment. The objective of the activity is to observe and to learn about the variation of colors emitted by metal atoms during excitation and to determine the frequency and amount of energy emitted by the light by matching the observed flame color to a representative wavelength.
