Infrastructure Whenlooking at the plan on a bigger scale theinfrastructure highlighted areas have been well laid out by the planners, making sure residents have full access to what is needed to live a sustainablelifestyle. Cycle, pedestrian andtransport routes are designed by landscape planners and architects to link thedevelopment into the surroundings to local amenities, places of work andleisure activities.
This plan shows localamenities close, the master plan clearly shows the district centre to be in thecentre of barking riverside. Residents have access to retail shops, religiouscentres, over ground etc. Figure ten: Infrastructure plan with amenities andtransport routes Routes leading outside infrastructurehas also been a major focus for this project, having a new over ground whichwill be completed by the end of 2019 will demonstrate the importance of havinggood network support for the new area. People will be able to commute tocentral parts of London within minutes which make the transportation links veryuseful for residents, while busroutes are also available forthe nearest tube station which is the Barking underground. The persistently strong relationship between theintra-urban transportation system and the spatial form anorganisation will createa sense of ownership through buildings and homes.
The underground station willbe in the heart of the district centre which is in the centre of the proposedmaster plan, which is a well-thought place by the borough andarchitects and it also encourages people to use transportation instead of cars which helpswith sustainability. Most residential housing is surrounded by shops and localtransport as described on the map. The illustrative plans show the scale ofspaces and relationship between the station, the main public spaces and theriverfront. The close link amenities provide people with living a practicalroutine which is ideal for families who work.
The pink highlighted area showsthe district centre which extends from the overgroundstation into thewaterfront, which will be the governing area with retail shops, restaurants, neighbourhood square, views into the river and other activities for residents. Havingthese amenities around the infrastructure becomes an important factor for thisarea to be sustainable. Summary It can be summarised by looking closely at the masterplan, you can identify the way architects havecome together with the borough and have really thought about the way the communitywould be formed in a way living sustainably is seamless just by havingamenities and other shared spaces close together.
Themain aspect to this was through private and public spaces and feeling asense of ownership. Little factors such as having a fence through the openspace in the centre of the blocks of houses createa semi-private space for residents. Although, there can also be sustainable consequences. Having immediate access to amenities forms asustainable lifestyle, having in mind that it helps create communities. Thearchitects have built buildings which help target not having enough familyhomes and affordable homes, this is important for the borough as it is set intheir brief after looking at the local borough statistics, re development isvital and fixing these changes will help London both economically and sociallycreating a future which people will enjoy living and breathing in. Sharedspaces among these areas are also vital when one wants toengage a social interaction through a semi private space. This regenerated areahas shown the ongoing process to tackle building good design homes and makingsure it is affordable for people looking for homes within the council.
While some homes are built for private home ownership, taking in consideration that these homes will help people live sustainablywhich is also seamless because of the way the master plan was planned. These propertieshave been designed from the outset to fulfil the sustainability and carbon reductionrequirements of that Barking Riverside development proposals. The social sustainability aspects help’s the area toregenerate into space where people are able tolive a lifestyle which is seen to reduce carbon footprint by having closelybuilt amenities near, the infrastructure also describes in detail the way thesewill be connected to each other.
