Humankind should pursue space exploration because they can develop the human civilization, earn economic benefits, and gain substantial amounts of knowledge. Not only astronomers, scientists majoring in different areas were also able to expand their research areas due to the interesting laws of space. For example, physicists such as Georges Lemaître, who proposed ‘The Big Bang Theory’, and Stephen Hawking, who proposed ‘The String Theory’, have all based their theories on the physics in space.

Space exploration does not only affect scientific theories, space exploration also affects people’s daily lives. The first satellites, designed to study the space environment and test the initial capabilities in the Earth’s orbit, contributed to critical knowledge and capabilities for developing telecommunications between different countries, global positioning, and playing a pivotal role in weather forecasting. The challenges of space exploration have sparked new scientific and technological advancement of inherent value to humankind. A better understanding of the universe has provided solutions to people around the globe, knowledge that is coupled with ingenuity, and introduced new perspectives on our individual and a collective place in the universe. While exploring space, there are some certain challenges that require solutions that will provide benefits to Earth even before the technology employs in orbit. Some new perspectives and challenges that people faced to achieve ambitious exploration goals and innovating the life of citizens include the following: development of highly reliable human and robotic systems interacting with each other on Earth and in space with limited maintenance; long travel time and operation in confined spacecraft and shelters, new transportation creation capabilities, operations in extremely hostile environments, autonomous operations with limited communications and logistical supplies only from Earth, minimising the components and development, and more.

(ISECG, 2013) This requires innovative healthcare and medical diagnostic and therapy tools, which make scientists study about space and increase the quality of hospitality. Resulting in improving the basic human conditions.  Recently, NASA came up with ambitious plans for the future of space exploration. They officially stated, “Within the next few years, the space program is expected to improve our knowledge of solar energy power, cryogenics, and robotics”. To achieve all these goals, they use a current budget of $19.1 billion. Compared to the $756 billion that is currently spent on the military, which is 44 times the NASA’s budget. Collating war weaponry and studying our next future home, it is clear that space exploration programs will benefit mankind for human peace.

Most people are stating that the budget itself takes away too much taxes that it should be used for developments on Earth. However, sending that money for subsidies to poor countries would only provide short-term benefits only to a small group of people. 18.4 billion US dollars still seem like a lot of money, but it is commonly misunderstood that NASA launches all of its budgets in space. However, most of it is used on Earth.

Thus, it does not disappear from the economy. They are spent on employees of NASA who are “more than 18,000 civil service employees and more than 40,000 contractors and grantees work” and on other companies that are working for NASA. (Ádám, 2015) When these people spend their salaries, it gets back to the economy – The Multiplier Effect. Not only that, there has been huge advancements in NASA’s technology itself that has brought millions of dollars into the economy. Many were invented to resolve a problem that requires developing a whole new technological advancement that is used in space missions. This does not only benefits the astronauts, the technology will be in the civilian market before it is used for space exploration.

For example, the first integrated circuit – first model of the model microchip – was built by Texas Instruments funded by the Apollo program and the Air Force’s Minuteman Missile Project and was bought by NASA. (Ádám, 2015) Dan Majors also stated that “Those thermometers that are inserted in your ear nowadays and take your temperature in seconds? The technology was initiated by scientists who wanted to measure radiation from stars and planets. And doesn’t the bottom of your tongue appreciate it.” (Ádám, 2015) Nowadays, it can be found in basically everything: baby food, aerodynamics, navigation systems, etc. (ISECG, 2013) People should not forget that the basic things that they use in daily life are spin-off products based off from all the technology that has been invented by NASA. Once an idea comes to life, someone will see potential in it and sell it. Eventually, it will appear on the commercial market, available for everyone. This means that there will be companies producing, transporting and selling the products.

Therefore, creating more jobs and positively influencing the economy. Later, the technology will be part or bases of another, newer technology, repeating its cycle. However, most parts of it will be originated back to the invention by NASA.
