People who sit for 11 hours or more a day are 40 percent more likely to die over the next three years, regardless of whether they are physically active or not.2 A stroke, can happen to anyone at any time, occurs when blood flow to an area in the brain is cut off, may be caused by a blockage inside a blood vessel or the leaking or bursting of a blood vessel.1 “Sitting activity and stroke” is the article that will be elaborating the connection found by the author Dr English et al between the amount someone spent sitting can affect they health and consequently be vulnerable to Stroke. I will also be using my own representation to state my view in this connection. Patient awareness, decreased physical activity, and poor diet remains a limitation in the treatment of risk factors to Stoke. The study show that people with stroke are less engage in physical activities compared to same age healthy group.1 Light to moderate physical activity can drastically reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular disease.2 There are many barriers for people with stroke, one being that most adults do not obtain the recommended levels of physical activity and many don’t perform physical activity at all.
2 A confirmation is rapid accumulating on the prejudicial health impact of too much sitting, sedentary behavior increases the probability for high blood glucose levels and potentially diabetes, if not taken seriously, this can be a big exposure because diabetes itself is a risk factor for stroke. Sitting greatly impact the metabolism and play a crucial role in health risk among adults, getting up and ambulate around the house or work for few minutes every hour during the day can affect in a positive way but more physical activity would be necessary to offset the negative health effects of sitting for a prolonged time. Patients with stroke display elevated energy cost while walking when put in comparison to a healthy person, but the components are not yet fully understood.1 This could be overlook because of the lack of physical activity being what affect the most health since patients with stroke are less likely to engaging into routinely exercises, usually staying in a more sedentary life.1 This knowledge that physical activity is the key to live a longer and healthier life is repeated often when the subject is health.2 A healthier more active person is more likely to live free of diabetes and stroke, lower the risk of cardiovascular disease and live longer.
1 The main idea of this study was the connection with been less engaged in physical activity and a person sitting time habits, I also see this as a positive knowledge and is something that I have been try to practice more in my life lately. This is especially important to stroke patients because this study found that stroke is less physical activity and is likely to have a second stroke.1 This information should be an alert to physicians, researchers, and Physical therapist to engage stroke patient with a goal to increase their physical activity as a natural preventive medicine and precaution for diseases. Reducing the sitting time is a very important focus that can easily be introduced to most of exercises routines, or even simply by mentioning how important it can be to simply walk in the neighborhood.1 Get people more active and promote health reminds me of the APTA Vision statement “Transforming society by optimizing movement to improve the human experience”.3 It is my goal to spread and educate the importance of more movement and physical activity to improve our lives.
